Birkin Scare

Friends, this is how to effectively lobby for a shopping budget...

Me: Hon, can I buy a new bag?
Hubz: Sure.
Me: I want a Birkin.
Hubz: I thought you want a bag?
Me: Birkin is an Hermes bag!

Hubz: How much is it? $1,000?
Me: Maybe for the key chain.
Hubz: HuWhat?!?! $4,000??
Me: No....
Hubz: $10,000??
Me: Hmmm, yeh... I think I could get a decent one for $10,000.

Looking at me with a penetrating look as if I just committed a deadly sin...

Hubz: Can you just get a Prada instead?
Me: Ahihihi, I just did!

Hubz looking so relieved!!

...Am I sly or what?!?!! ;p

PS - I know I have been away for too long and I still cannot exactly figure out what happened to me but I was so close to shutting this blog down. It just seemed that blogging lost all its fun all of a sudden. Everything felt like a chore: posing, posting, commenting. I guess I just needed a healthy doze of vitaMinn S (S for shopping!) to keep me going again.

Who knows when I'm going to have another of this random bouts of blogging indifference . Maybe once or twice more before winter is over. But for now, I'm back! =)

If this skirt had feelings, it probably would have already issued a restraining order against me. Why wouldn't it? I know I would if somebody stalked me every single day for the 3 straight weeks!

The Pleated Skirt Dress

Keeping the accessories at a minimum makes this dress speak out for itself in a simple,
subtle and classy kind of way.

I don't have the kind of body to pull off a pleated skirt dress. But that did not stop me anyway from buying a few in the past. I only stopped wearing them when one time, a complete stranger asked if I was pregnant! To my shock, surprise and embarrassment, I just answered "Yes" and smiled (with one hand tightly clenched behind my back to stop myself from giving him a big, fat slap!).

Last week, as I was doing my weekly (err DAILY!) rounds of retail stalking at Off Fifth, I gave myself another chance to fit into this cut. And I think I may have just found a perfectly suitable one in this Calvin Klein piece. It was NOT perfect, just perfectly suitable. But at 75% off (originally $144), it was good enough. And for me, good enough is great!

There is something about THE red sole that makes a girl feel undeniably sexy. Just five hours of owning these pair of Louboutins and I already do. Sick but true.

I really don't know what is it about shoes that makes an ordinary girl like me fall head over heels (pun intended) and gaga all over. If you think about it, it's really just a pair of leather-made outer covering worn to protect oneself from the elements (credits to Webster for the definition). How can then such a simple article of clothing evoke so much emotion especially among the female population?

Carrie Bradshaw was fashionably fixated with her Manolos enough to accumulate a mortgage’s worth; Hollywood starlets swear by their red-soled Louboutins, Swarovski-encrusted Blahniks and the uber sexy 4-inch Jimmy Choos - each fetching for at least $600 a pair and can go as high as $14,000! Yes, a Blahnik alligator boots sells for $14,000. A steep discount though compared to Stuart Weitzman’s Cinderella shoes for $2M.... Indeed, what a fairytale!

While my shoe collection is not a mortgage's worth, it's a hundred pairs too many. I have Minneapolis to blame for that because outrageously discounted items are not hard to come by in this area. And whenever I see something deeply discounted, I'd pick it up without much thought. Repeat the process a few (a LOT!) more times and that's exactly how I got to a ridiculous Imeldific number of 200 pairs and counting.

I would gladly exchange 30 of my one-hit-wonders for one special pair that I will wear over and over again. Two weeks ago, I did just that.
